Providing counselling and support to those who need it...
Miss E is 59 years old and lives alone. She suffers from anxiety and is on medication, diazepam and beta blockers (propranolol). She has regular panic attacks especially in public places, and with low self esteem and feelings of insecurity she isolates herself from family and friends preferring to stay indoors.
Long term 1-2-1 therapy was offered over hourly sessions each week for 22 weeks. The sessions were focused on what she wanted to achieve from counselling giving her the opportunity to:-
Express and explore the panic attacks, when and where they occur the most/ less,
Coping strategies – how to cope with or avoid panic attacks
Determine how the new behaviour learned helps her well being, her day to day functioning and her relationship with family and friends.
This was monitored through exploration in the sessions, updates of her weekly events and a more open and willing to share approach during her sessions. As result of the counselling she was able to control her panic attacks in public places and her medication has been reduced.
